What is a Faith Community Nurse? An FCN has a current Registered Nurse license from the state where she/he practices in a paid or non-paid model working in a Faith Community. “Faith Community nursing is a unique, specialized practice of professional nursing that focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.”
Objectives
Participants attending the Foundation of Faith Community Nursing Course will be able to:
1. Embrace the integration of faith and health as central to the faith community nurse role. 2. Demonstrate knowledge, attitude, and skills to practice as a beginning faith community nurse. 3. Value an inter-collegial peer system of support. 4. Identify a network for continuing development and support. 5. Commit to continued spiritual formation to more effectively understand and carry out the faith community nurse role.

Foundations of Faith Community Nursing September 15 – October 29, 2022 Augustana University, Sioux Falls, SD
Are you hearing the call to serve your community of faith, or the greater community, through your vocation as a nurse? Would you like to learn more about caring for the whole-person through a faith-based lens? In these tumultuous times, many are feeling a pull to connect health and faith, love and compassion in their daily lives and their work. If this is true for you, this may be the course for you! The Foundations of Faith Community Nurse (FCN) course prepares registered nurses to provide leadership as a faith community/parish nurse or incorporate these holistic care skills into their current practice.
Dates: In-person sessions September 15 – 16, 2022 with closing session October 29, 2022, at Augustana University, Sioux Falls. Online learning occurs September 17 – October 28, 2022

The Parish Nurse Ministry Program of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN is offering a Foundations of Faith Community Nursing/Parish Nursing course October 3-7, 2022 (the deadline to register is September 19th ) at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. The course format is in-person as we do not offer a distance learning option. The program is open to licensed registered nurses interested in starting health and healing ministries.
Based on the current 2019 curriculum developed through the Westberg Institute, the program topics include:
The program cost of $450 includes the participant workbook and a copy of the ANA’s practice standards for FCNs (this is a $100 value), and a binder of program specific materials. A small scholarship may be available to those who are not sponsored by a faith community. The cost also includes refreshments and some meals for the week! Lodging is not available on site but there are many hotels in the F/M area.
