In Memoriam

Kathryn J. Conrad, Faith Community Nurse

Kathy Conrad, Parish Nurse at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, PA and member of LFCNA, Region 8 died on September 3, 2023, following a brief battle with cancer. Kathy earned her undergraduate degree in Nursing from Indiana University and her Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She was well respected throughout her career as an oncology nurse spanning over decades at several facilities. She took her devotion to care and knowledge to various countries worldwide to teach others the most up-to-date techniques and advancements in the field of Oncology. In her spare time, she loved reading and quilting. This talent was a blessing to the prayer shawl ministry at her church, Zion Lutheran, where she also participated in many activities including the altar guild, food pantry, and her work as the parish nurse.

Kathy was a wonderful contributor to the dialogue of the Regions 7 and 8 Peer Gatherings and as recently as June, Kathy represented her congregation and LFCNA at the Southwest Pennsylvania Synod Meeting.

As colleagues in faith community nursing, we were blessed by Kathy’s gifts and presence among us. We commend her to our Maker where she lives in eternal glory.

Introducing Enid

Thank you for the opportunity to represent Region 7 on the LFCNA Board of Directors. I am an active member of my home church, Christ Lutheran Hellertown for over 25 years. Christ Lutheran is officiated by the Pastor Phillip Spohn. Our congregation celebrated its 150th charter anniversary recently and the 50th anniversary of our church’s building. We have approximately 325 members on our church roster.

I have served as the Care Giving Ministries Team Leader for the past 13 years and accepted the staff position of Faith Community Nurse 6 years ago. I am also active on the Worship and Music team as a praise singer and team member. I collaborate with other church teams in my role as Team Leader/FCN and work with Outreach related to service project initiatives. I am grateful the Faith Community supports the Faith Community Nurse staff position as an important care giving aspect to assist the pastor, parishioners and community.

My advice to new Faith Community Nurses is to love what you are doing and to find time to care for self for a healthy work/life balance. Some of my other interests include singing, Fall football, pickleball, binge reading a Danielle Steele book, hospitality, and spending quality time with family and friends. Enid
