If the root is holy, then the branches also are holy. -Romans 11:16
The flower gardens are in full bloom, the vegetable patch brimming with abundant produce and the tomato plants heavy with ripening fruit. The master gardener has planted good seed, taken cuttings from strong stock, cultivated the soil to encourage strong roots, and watered and fertilized each plant to bear good fruit.
The responsibilities of a Parish Nurse present many challenges. Meeting the needs of individual church members can be daunting. Sometimes it seems there is neither sufficient time nor energy to address the individual problems or plan programs for the entire congregation.
At such times, it helps to remind ourselves that we are branches of a holy root, blessed with the Spirit’s power and full of the Spirit’s fruit. Our strength and ability comes from the strong root of Christ. We are blessed with His grace and wisdom and given the gifts needed to share the gifts of the Spirit with others.
Lord, you are the Master gardener. We are rooted in Christ, who tends us with His Word and spirit and nourishes us with His body and blood. Grant us strong stems and branches as we share the fruit of God’s love with all those whom we serve and care for.
We pray in the name of Jesus.
Lydia Volz
We encourage Parish Nurses to submit devotions of 200-300 words written specifically with Parish Nurses in mind. Please email them to mjhallberg@gloriadeistpaul.org or ktreat@luthersem.edu. The Communications Committee selects those printed.
